About Psychoanalysis
Psychoanalysis is an intensive form of psychotherapy that addresses unconscious, maladaptive patterns in relationships and experiences of self that is particularly useful in addressing longstanding feelings of anxiety, obsessional thinking, depression, existential issues, chronic relationship problems, loneliness, and general dissatisfaction in life.
Psychoanalysis is typically conducted four or five times per week, with each session lasting about 45 to 50 minutes. The increased frequency of sessions and the use of free association helps deepen and intensify the treatment, which in turn helps the patient develop increased self-awareness and insight into their unconscious conflicts, fears, problematic relationship patterns, and unhealthy life choices.
The analyst’s role is to be curious about the patient’s experience and to provide insight as to what might be occurring outside of conscious awareness. This helps patients deconstruct the past and to develop a complex understanding of the present, which fosters a fuller, richer, and more meaningful life and experience and engagement with self and others.
My fee for psychoanalysis is $215 per session. This is a reduced rate from my $225 per session fee due to the increased frequency of sessions required in psychoanalysis.
